Beirut, Lebanon – June 24, 2025: Visa (NYSE: V), a global leader in digital payments, has officially announced the launch of Google Pay in Lebanon through a strategic collaboration with Google.
Starting today, Visa cardholders from BLOM Bank and Banque Libano-Française (BLF) can add their Visa cards to Google Wallet on Android and Wear OS devices. This enables seamless, secure contactless payments at any merchant that supports NFC technology. Additional banks across Lebanon are expected to roll out support in the coming weeks, further broadening access to mobile payment options in the country.
This launch meets the growing demand for digital-first payment experiences in Lebanon, where consumers—both locals and tourists—can now enjoy the convenience of paying directly from their smartphones or smartwatches.
Lebanon’s digital landscape is highly developed, with over 5.3 million internet users (a penetration rate of 91.6%) and approximately 4.7 million mobile broadband subscriptions, accounting for over 80% of the population. This widespread digital readiness makes the market highly suitable for adopting mobile-first solutions like Google Pay.
Security remains at the heart of Google Pay. The platform uses tokenization, a robust security feature that replaces sensitive card data with unique, encrypted tokens. Each transaction is safeguarded using a device-specific token and a dynamic security code, ensuring secure and private mobile payments.
Mario Makary, Vice President and Country Manager for Visa in the Levant, commented:
“We’re proud to continue driving Lebanon’s digital payment evolution in partnership with Google. With mobile penetration exceeding 80% and a clear shift toward contactless transactions, this launch represents a key milestone in offering secure, globally recognized payment solutions. Lebanon now joins a growing network of mobile-first markets like Jordan, reflecting our ongoing commitment to advancing the future of payments in the Levant.”
